Why need Singeing machine in Textile Finishing
Types of Singeing Machines
Types of Singeing Machines
Singeing is the process of burning off any protruding fibers from the surface of yarn, fabric or textiles to create a smooth and even surface. It is an important step in the production of garments, fabrics and other textile products because it helps to improve the quality, appearance and performance of the final product. It also makes it easier for dyes to penetrate the material evenly, and allows inks to adhere easily. To achieve the best singeing results, it is important to use the right machine for your needs.
There are three main types of singeing machines: 1) Plate singeing machine, 2) Rotary-cylinder or Roller singeing machines, and 3) Gas singeing machine. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages. The choice of machine will depend on the specific fabric, its construction and thickness, the desired outcome of singeing, and the heat sensitivity of the fibers.
Plate singeing machines use one or two heated curved copper plates with a thickness of 1 to 2 inches. The plates are heated to a bright red color by the combustion of suitable gas mixed with air. The cloth passes over and in contact with the plates at a speed of from 150 to 250 yards per minute, and the protruding fibers are burnt during this passage. Plate singeing machines are usually used for cotton and polyester woven materials.
The disadvantage of this type of machine is the high energy consumed by the burners to generate the desired flame, and the fact that it is very difficult to regulate and maintain an uniform flame width throughout the fabric. This may result in uneven singeing and a loss of up to 75 percent in tensile strength in the direction of the warp or weft.
Rotary-cylinder or Roller singeing machines use a rotating cylindrical cylinder made of either copper or cast iron to touch the surface of the cloth. The cylinder is driven by the motor and has a cool surface that is constantly in contact with the fabric. The cylinder can rotate either in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, and the surface of the cylinder can be adjusted to give a desired singeing effect. This type of machine can also be adjusted to different fabric widths.
This type of machine is very versatile and can be used to singe many different types of fabrics, from yarn to woven or knitted fabrics. It is also capable of producing a range of different degrees of singeing, from mild to very harsh. It is also easy to adjust the amount of energy applied to the fabric by adjusting the distance between the cylinder and the fabric.
When using a rotary-cylinder or roller singeing machine, it is essential to clean the surface of the cylinder regularly to prevent buildup of dirt and residue. This can cause the fabric to break or be damaged, and it can also affect the performance of the machine. A good way to keep the cylinder clean is to use a special cleaning solution or a mixture of soap and water.
